In todays post I’m sharing this beautifully intimate Motherhood photoshoot in Crickhowell. Emily and her lovely Celyn joined me in a quiet woodland full of magic to create images that captured the bond they share with each other. This session was a lovely way to spend the afternoon, very relaxed and peaceful. And I think we capture that mood perfectly as both of those things shine through in these photos. Please allow me to properly introduce you to Mother and son.

At the start of our Motherhood photoshoot in Crickhowell Celyn was feeling a little clingy. Partly because he was getting over a cold, when are toddlers not getting over a cold?! And partly because he found himself in a new setting meeting me, a new person. It’s completely normal for children of all ages to be a little nervous at the beginning of a session. I never try to encourage a child to leave the comfort and safety of their parents arms until they feel ready and secure to do so. In fact when a child is feeling a little clingy at the start it makes for some beautiful sweet photos of little ones cuddling in close to Mum. A moment of connection that I like to capture to it’s fullest because it never takes long for a child to warm up. Then before you know it they’re off playing and exploring whilst we chase after them!

During our pre-session planning Emily had told me how much as family they loved to be in nature, which is why I suggested this location just outside of Crickhowell. It is a lovely, quiet woodland that not many people seem to know about, a real hidden gem! Not only is it stunning throughout the year, offering lots of seasonal beauty for photos, it also has little secrets to discover! This woodland is sometimes used by a local school for forest group. Whenever I visit there is something new to discover, a new den of branches, a spiralling stone circle, a display of logs used to create a gathering place. So there are plenty of discoveries for little ones to make, lots for them to delight in during a Motherhood photoshoot in Crickhowell.

And it’s safe to say that Celyn did lots of exploring during this session. He was thrilled to have so much freedom. It could see how proud and how much love Emily felt as she watched her little one excitedly run around this beautiful place.
One of the biggest drives behind my work is to get Mothers in to the photos with their little ones. Motherhood is an experience like no other, I can’t claim to have the words to describe the joys and sacrifices it holds. But I can say that it is the deepest kind of love a person can experience and it deserves to be celebrated and preserved. That is exactly what we did during this Motherhood photoshoot in Crickhowell. After following Celyn and his curiosity around the woodland I created a blissful moment of calm and invited Emily and her son to lay on the forest floor.

This was the cue Celyn needed to have a feed with Mum. As Emily lay surrounded by trees, leaves, so much life there was a distinct feeling of magic in the air. Maybe it was that she was nourishing her child, helping him grow as she lay grounded and connected with the Earth? All I know is that it certainly felt incredible. After capture a few moments I offered to leave them both in peace, to truly soak up this moment of connectedness. Because a Motherhood photoshoot in Crickhowell goes beyond the image we create together. It’s about the emotion and memories we create in the moment.
